Fresno Community Shows it's Support For Yosemite National Park

Yesterday Yosemite Fresno Neighbors and The Yosemite Association presented An Evening in Our Backyard hosted by the KJEWEL/KYNO Radio Station and Art Gallery in downtown Fresno. Images from the First Light exhibit, on loan from The Ansel Adams Gallery, provided a backdrop for the event. This show presents the work of five photographers over five summer seasons, and is accompanied by a beautiful book titled First Light: Five Photographers in Yosemite's Backcountry.

Refreshments were provided by Fresno State University and live Native American flute music and blues by Lance Canales. The evening featured a 9-minute trailer of the new Ken Burn's documentary, The National Parks: America's Best Idea, which premeres Sept 27 on all PBS stations.

The evening was capped off by an inspirational presentation by Ranger Shelton Johnson, who is featured in the Ken Burn's documentary and recognized for his work in educating the public through his interpretive program, Yosemite Through the Eye's of a Buffalo Soldier, 1904.

Eastern Sierra Fall Color One-Day Workshop

October 19, 2009 (Lee Vining/ Mono Lake)

Every October the aspens on the eastern side of the Sierras turn yellow, orange, and gold, putting on the most spectacular display of fall color in California. Instructor Michael Frye will lead you to some of his favorite aspen groves near Mono Lake, at the eastern edge of Yosemite National Park, and help you learn the essential skills needed to capture the beauty of these autumn scenes - including how to use your histogram for proper exposures, making simple, strong compositions, and how to find the right light for your subject. Visit our website for more information or to register.
