Reflected Light on Water from Big Meadow Fire

Beautiful photograph of smoky light taken by staff photographer Nick Ahlgrim. No matter what is going on in Yosemite, there is always something to photograph.

The Big Meadow Fire continues to burn near Foresta, El Portal, and across Highway 120 heading north. Everyone involved is doing their best to manage this situation.

Our best wishes to our friends and neighbors, and the firefighters working on the front lines. Yosemite is, and always will be a wonderful place to live, work, and visit.
Stay tuned for more information.

Center for Photographic Art- Ansel Adams Portrait Exhibit Closes Soon

People, of and by Ansel Adams
March 23 through August 30, 2009

The Center for Photographic Art is proud to present the exhibition: People, of and by Ansel Adams, curated by Jeanne Falk Adams and Sarah Adams.

Rarely seen portraits by Ansel Adams from the personal collection of Michael and Jeanne Falk Adams highlight this truly historic show held in Ansel Adams' hometown of Carmel, California.

Highlighted in this exhibit are portraits of Ansel's contemporaries--people who were significant in Ansel's life- such as Georgia O'Keeffe & Orville Cox, Robinson Jeffers, Mary Austin, Albert Bender, Cedric Wright, Beaumont Newhall, Alfred Stieglitz, and Edward Weston combine with loving images of his family.

Although Ansel is universally known for his landscapes, Jon Holmes wrote this of his portraits: "His portraits really stand apart. These are tactile images in which the viewer can reach into the frame and touch the subject." Also included in the exhibit are portraits of Ansel Adams taken by his friends, family, and colleagues.

The exhibition: People, of and by Ansel Adams is sponsored by Betty and Jim Kasson.

Gallery hours: Tues - Sun 1-5 pm.

Megapixels and Megarocks - Digital Photography Workshop in Yosemite Valley

With Tom Mallonee and Jenny Ellerbe

October 2-4, 2009 (Yosemite National Park)

The mechanics of digital image capture and its subsequent processing is vastly different from film. Rapid technology changes combined with conflicting information can often be overwhelming. With such a relatively immature technology, there is always something new to learn.

This three day workshop will teach you how to make the highest quality images from your digital camera by providing an understanding of everything from personal vision and compositional refinement to RAW development and processing with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

We will spend time photographing in Yosemite Valley and will then process your images in the computer lab, taking each participant, step by step, to a final image

Rooms have been set aside for workshop participants at Yosemite Lodge in Yosemite Valley. For more information visit our website.
